Michael Giddens

We are fortunate to have some great leaders in our chorus, but the man with the musical plan is Michael Giddens. Michael has been a part of Harmony Hills' journey since he was brought on as our interim director during the early weeks of the pandemic in April 2020. Michael was familiar with the chorus before this as he was hired by us as our "riser boy" when he was a high school student of one of our previous directors in 2014. Michael graduated from high school and had to leave us as he went off to get his degree in music from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He currently serves as Assistant Choir Director at Thompson High School in Alabaster, Alabama where he also acts as the Technical Director for the Performing Arts Center on campus.

Aside from his time as our riser boy, Michael has had other involvement in the greater barbershop community. Michael became a member of the Central Alabama Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society in the Fall of 2017 and was later invited to serve as Vice President of Music and Performance with the chapter. Following the departure of their director, Michael was invited to take the helm and has been directing Voices of the South since 2022. Michael also was appointed to the Board of Directors for the Southeastern Harmony District of the Barbershop Harmony Society in January of 2024.

When he's not doing barbershop or in school, you can find Michael as a Host at one of our local Cracker Barrels or serving on several different arts-related non-profits in the area.

We are glad to have Michael as our musical director and hope you'll visit a rehearsal or performance soon to get to know why we love him so much!
